Following the launch of the Action Plan, the Ministry identified a number of ‘Quick Win Projects’ for implementation in the short term which were expected to create employment opportunities for the youth. They are as follows;
Motorised Cargo Tri-Cycles
The Ministry procured Motorized tricycles which are being given to youth on a loan basis. The tri-cycles will be used by the youth who transport daily goods (such as vegetables for marketeers) as opposed to using wheelbarrows.
Establishment of Information and Communication Technology Businesses
The Government through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development launched the ICT Youth Empowerment Programme on 29th December, 2017. This programme aims at establishing ICT business Centre countrywide to be manned by the youth. This will provide access to ICT for young people, especially those in rural areas. The Ministry has procured various ICT equipment for the establishment of ICT Centres, to be distributed to various youth groups on a loan basis. The Centres will be developed into ICT hubs, which will ultimately be linked to the National YouthConnekt.
The Zambia YouthConnekt was launched on 9th March, 2018. The objective is to exchange ideas and explore ways to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and strategic partnerships to unlock the potential of the youth for inclusive socio economic development and connect them with endless opportunities that the African Continent has to offer. The specific activities include but not limited to; Youth networking and knowledge sharing, entrepreneurship, and responsible use of innovation and ICTs.
