In the quest for the country to continue fighting the vice of doping in sport, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development has partnered with the Zambia Centre for Communication Programs (ZCCP)- Kwatu an NGO funded by USAID to implement sensitization community programs.
The Ministry together with the Ministry of Gender has partnered with ZCCP in training young boys of 9-14 years in life skills such as ant-Gender Based Violence in a Program dubbed Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM). Football is being used as a strategy of reaching out to the boys. The Ministry is involved in the project to facilitate the sport anatomy aspect.
The USAID funded project is being implemented in 7 Provinces in 16 districts. All provinces are involved except Muchinga, Luapula and Northern. Selected coaches are being trained to work with the children.
During the training sessions, the Ministry staff had been also capturing data on existing coaches in communities, their qualifications and their experiences. Most importantly the Ministry had also been using the opportunity to sensitize the coaches on the vice of doping. The officers distributed information education materials and gave talks on anti-doping.
This article is an highlight of the 27 coaches who were sensitized in Kapiri Mposhi District. This was being done following the strict measures of preventing Covid-19. The program was a success and it is a good stepping stone for Community Sport implementation program for the Ministry.
